Creativity is the answer to good problem solving. Problem-solving that has few negative impacts on others. When we include diverse voices and thinking we can come up with amazing things.
Over the last few semesters, I have charged 1 class from each semester to try and solve a problem that they see at the college. It might be as simple as the scrapes that happen along the back wall of the classrooms. When desks are up against the them, overtime these scratch or mark the walls.
The students solutions were zany, simple, and several served the need perfectly. All were presented to facilities at BMCC and feedback provided. Real problems, real solution - that's what diversity helps create.
